ATTENTION TO HISTORY EDUCATION MASTERS AND DOCTORATE STUDENTS

For newly registered students (MA and PhD) who will register for a course for the first time

On the course selection screen, click on the Curriculum/Extra-departmental courses tab, select HISTORY EDUCATION (MA) if you are a MA student, HISTORY EDUCATION (DR) if you are a PhD student, and click on the show all courses button. The points you should pay attention to afterwards are stated below.

• The advisor of those who will start the program for the first time is the Department Head until their advisors are assigned.
• First of all, the compulsory courses of the program must be taken.

Compulsory Courses

MA History Teaching and Textbooks

• One of the courses must be “Scientific Research Methods and Ethics” (if taken in MA, it does not need to be taken in PhD).
• A minimum of 30 ECTS and a maximum of 40 ECTS courses can be taken in a semester.

For Master's students who are in the course phase but have not yet moved on to the thesis phase and whose advisors have been assigned;

• They must select 30 ECTS courses (including Master's Thesis Preparation and Seminar courses).
• Select the "Master's Thesis Preparation" course opened in the name of their own advisors.
• They must select the "Seminar" course (Seminar Course must be selected by students who have moved on to the 2nd semester. 1st semester students must not select this course.)

For those who have completed the Master's course period;

• They must select the "Master's Thesis Study" opened in the name of their own advisors.

For Doctoral students who are in the course phase but have not yet moved on to the thesis phase and whose advisors have been assigned;

• They must select 30 ECTS courses (including Doctoral Thesis Preparation and Seminar courses).
• Select the "Doctoral Thesis Preparation" course opened in the name of their own advisors.
• They are required to select the “Seminar” course (Seminar Course should be selected by students who have passed to the 2nd term. 1st term students should not select this course)

For those who have completed the doctoral course period and have not yet taken the proficiency exam;

• Select the “Proficiency Exam” course in the 3rd term at the earliest and the 5th term at the latest.
• “Doctoral Thesis Preparation” opened in the name of their own advisors should be selected.

For those who have completed the doctoral course period and passed the proficiency exam;

• Select the “Doctoral Thesis Study” opened in the name of their own advisors.

IMPORTANT!

• Select your History Education courses from the “History Education” page and your education courses from the “Education Partner” page.
• Do not take into account the “Compulsory-Elective” statements in the History Education courses on the course selection screen.
• The “Scientific Research Techniques and Ethics” course is compulsory in Master’s programs. Students who take this course in the Master’s program do not have to take it in the PhD program. This course will be selected from the Education Joint Program (MA) after going to the Curriculum-Extra-departmental courses tab. PhD students will also select the course from the same page. However, when selecting courses, you must select your course by considering the DR or MA label next to the course.
• Students who have not been assigned an advisor cannot register for Thesis Preparation, Thesis Study, Proficiency Exam, Seminar, Term Project courses.
• Master's Thesis Study/Doctoral Thesis Study and Master's Thesis Preparation/Doctoral Thesis Preparation Courses should not be confused. Thesis Study is selected by master's and doctoral students who have completed the course term. Thesis Preparation Course is a course that must be selected by master's and doctoral students who are still in the course phase and whose advisors have been assigned.
• Education courses should be selected under the Education Joint Program title. The course schedule of education courses is announced on the website of the Institute of Education Sciences.
• The maximum duration of the thesis master's program is 6 semesters, and the doctoral program is 12 semesters. Students who cannot complete their graduate education within these periods will be dismissed from the Institute. In master's and doctoral programs, courses must be completed in four semesters.
• Those who want to make any changes regarding their course registrations must contact their advisors during advisor approvals (September 12-16, 2024) or during the Course-Add-Drop period (October 3-4, 2024). During these dates, the system will be closed to you and will only be open to your advisors. If a student does not give approval, their advisor will not be able to make approval.
